Home Secy Prem Kumar Rai resigns



KATHMANDU: Home Secretary Prem Kumar Rai has resigned from his post on Friday.

Secretary Rai tendered his resignation with Chief Secretary Lok Darshan Regmi with effect from Monday, a source at the Ministry of Home Affairs said.

Section 17 of the Civil Servants Act, 2049 has fixed the tenure of secretary for five years. He tendered his resignation two days before his tenure expires.

Rai had been promoted to the post of Secretary on February 5, 2015.

Similarly, other secretaries Rajan Khanal, Gajendra Thakur and Ram Kumar Acharya are retiring from their posts on February 5.

With the Rai’s retirement, Yadav Koirala, Maheshwar Nyaupane, Kedar Bahadur Adhikari, Surya Prasad Gautam are in the fray to the coveted post of Home Secretary.

It is learned that General Consul of Nepal in Kolkata Ek Narayan Aryal is also eyeing the post of Home Secretary.
