Bagmati cleaning campaign’s 400th week to see public awareness activities in seven places



KATHMANDU: The Bagmati Cleanup Mega Campaign is marking its 400th week by organizing special public awareness programs at seven places in the Kathmandu Valley.

The Mega Campaign reaches its 400th week on January 2, 2021, Saturday.

A meeting of the Mega Campaign on Wednesday decided to carry out the cleaning works along with public awareness campaign at Sanga Bhanjyang, Nagdhunga, New Buspark, Tribhuvan University Gate, Balaju Bypass, Narayangopal Chowk and Minbhawan.

The main 400th week program would be organized at Minbhawan in the afternoon following the public awareness raising cleanup programs, said Govinda Kafle, who is associated with the Mega Campaign.

The meeting also fixed the coordinators for the public awareness campaign at each place. The coordinators are Naresh Ranjit, Tara Bahadur Kunwar, Lok Bahadur Tandon, Ram Kumar Shrestha, Chitra Bahadur Sunuwar and Shovakanta Pandey.

The Mega Campaign itself will coordinate the main program at Minbhawan. As part of the public awareness program, stickers and information booklets related to environmental sanitation would be distributed to the public and private cars, buses and vehicles.

The Bagmati Cleanup Mega Campaign was initiated under the leadership of then Chief Secretary Leelamani Poudyal on May 19, 2013.

In the meeting on Wednesday, Poudyal had stressed on the need of making the local levels responsible for the Bagmati cleaning works.

The meeting has also urged the municipalities in the Kathmandu Valley to also mobilize in the Bagmati River cleaning activities.RSS
