Nepal witnesses first death of health worker from COVID-19

KATHMANDU: Nepal witnessed its first coronavirus death of health worker.

According to Province 2 COVID focal person Vijaya Kumar Jha, 40-year-old Kamalesh Sahani, a health assistant from Manara Sisawa, Mahottari has died of coronavirus while being taken to Kathmandu for further treatment.

Focal person Jha informed that Sahani who had been sick since August 23 died while being taken to Kathmandu on August 28.

The deceased used to work in a private health institute. Sahani had tested coronavirus positive in posthumous swab test.

According to Alok Kumar Sahani, the information officer of Manara Siswa Municipality, the deceased used to offer home service to the sick people of his locality and could have been transmitted with coronavirus during such fieldwork.

He is the first health worker to lose life due to coronavirus in Nepal. His wife has also tested coronavirus positive lately.

The Ministry of Health and Population is still to declare his death officially.
