World leaders to meet virtually at UN General Assembly



NEW YORK: The world leaders at the United Nations (UN) will organize a virtual this year for the first time in its 75-year history due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, US President Donald Trump is taking part in person.

According to Kelly Craft, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, President Trump will actually be speaking in person in the UN General Assembly.

Craft added that Trump will be the only leader to speak in the assembly chamber this year.

Thousands of people flocked to New York for the UN General Assembly of the world leaders, known as the General Debate.

Presidents, Prime Ministers, Monarchs and Foreign Ministers from the 193 UN member nations used to deliver their formal address.

The speeches of the world leaders will start as scheduled on September 22, and will be preceded by an event on September 21 marking the UN’s 75th anniversary.

Craft added that this year’s meeting will be more special because of the anniversary.
