MYAGDI: The Beni bazaar conservation project has been completed amidst lockdown. It is the river control project.

The Rupatal Conservation Integrated Development Project constructed the retaining and RCC walls on the banks of the Kaligandaki and Myagdi Rivers. It cost Rs 87 million. The undertaking was executed with two contracts made under the Ministry of Energy, Irrigation and Water Resources.

Project engineer Rajendra Kumar Shrestha informed that the project was completed before the deadline despite adverse situation. “Gabion wall has been constructed along 200 meters on either side of Kaligandaki River. Similarly, RCC and machinery wall was already constructed towards Myagdi,” he added.

The flood in the Kaligandaki River had damaged the under-construction wall two years back.

Meanwhile, the construction of a gabion wall has begun near the confluence of Kaligandaki and Myagdi Rivers of Beni Municipality-2. It will control the damages caused by the landslide and Kotkhola stream.

Beni is the most vulnerable district headquarters in the country in terms of soil erosion.

After the river control project is over, the people here are feeling safe, said Amar Bahadur Ghimire from Mangalaghat of Beni. RSS
