KATHMANDU: Chandragiri municipality has put in place special campaign against alcoholism, drug abuse and gambling.

A meeting of the community police and municipality committee held at the municipality office on Wednesday decided to place special campaign against alcoholism, drug abuse and gambling under the coordination of municipality mayor Ghanashyam Giri.

The meeting also has decided to check the production, transportation and sale of illegal domestic alcoholic products take action against drunk-driving.

Metropolitan Police Circle Thankot In-charge Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ghanashyam Shrestha lauded municipality initiative to take leadership for law and order. “Thankot police circle will also extend all possible support in municipality’s campaign for law and order”, he pledged.

The meeting also decided to run special sweep operation against drug abuse, take legal action against those involved in drug smuggling and conduct routine psychosocial counseling to drug abusers and their parents.

Municipality spokesperson Haribhakta Maharjan said action will be taken against anyone driving vehicle under the influence of drugs and alcohol in line with the Drug Prevention Act-2033.
