BHAKTAPUR: 14 members of a single family living in a rented land at Madhyapur Thimi-9, Bode have tested positive for coronavirus in the swab tests carried out on different dates.

According to the family sources, the male who showed coronavirus-like symptoms and got his swabs tested was found coronavirus positive on August 20.

“His swab was collected 3 days before it but the delay in the report made room for coronavirus transmission in the family,” a family member told Khabarhub.

“Despite the corona-like symptoms, he was sent home and asked to stay at home. Had he been kept in isolation and had he not used the same toilet, kitchen and other belongings, the family could have fared better.”

His daughter, who was discharged from Civil Hospital after giving birth to a child, also tested coronavirus positive.

Then, the tests carried out in other hospitals in Kathmandu found coronavirus pandemic in the entire family.

Two infants including a 4-day-old baby, 3 months old child, two post-natal mothers, 3 children of 7,8 and 11 years, a 75-year-old woman among many others in the family have tested positive for coronavirus.

The family is under pressure as the locals want them to leave the house whereas the hospital, citing there is no space, advises them to stay at home.

After hearing about the incident, Chief District Officer of Bhaktapur, Hum Kala Pandey has directed the police to ensure the family can leave peacefully at home.

However, Ward Chairperson of Madyapur Thimi Municipality-9 Ram Kaji Chakradhar denies the allegation of giving pressure and says that he and the locals have just advised the family to go to the isolation as the post-natal moms, the infants, children and the senior citizens in the family could find the isolation more convenient for them.

“We just wanted to prevent transmission to the community and ensure the safety of the family as well,” Chairperson Chakradhar said while speaking about the allegations relating to chase the family during their hard time.
