GALKOT: The head of a family that hosted a feast to celebrate the naming of a newborn member has tested positive to Coronavirus, leading to fear of massive community spread from those who attended the occasion.

Flouting prohibitory order and health protocol, the family in Galuwa in Baglung-10 had organized the feast, inviting friends and relatives, and neighbors in large number.

The father of the newborn daughter who had come from Lamjung to grace the event tested positive to Coronavirus.

As a result, 70 people believed to have come in close contact with him during the feast have given their swab samples for testing, according to the health unit of Baglung municipality.

The feast took place on August 17 and the father of the child tested positive on August 27.

Swab samples of 70 attendees including the priest and guests have been collected and sent for test, said senior health assistant Dilli Acharya.

Some family members have symptoms like fever and breathing difficulty. The swab sample of the 22-day-old baby has also been sent for test.

More than 12 persons have already been confirmed positive to the virus in the municipality. A prohibitory order is in place to remain in effect until August 31.
