3 more Nepalis abroad succumb to COVID-19, death toll hits 196



KATHMANDU: A total of three Nepalis succumbed to coronavirus pandemic in foreign countries in the past week.

According to the Health Committee under the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), two Nepalis died of the coronavirus in the UAE and one in the UK.

NRNA Health Committee Coordinator Dr. Sanjeev Sapkota said that 196 Nepalis in 16 countries have died of coronavirus infection till Saturday evening.

Dr. Sapkota said that cases of the coronavirus infection among Nepalis have increased in South Africa, Portugal, Spain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and other countries. Nepalis living in 38 countries around the world have been infected with the coronavirus so far.

So far, the infection has been seen in 34,701 Nepalis living in those countries. Of them, 32,511 have recovered, according to the health committee.

Meanwhile, the committee has urged the Nepali community to be more vigilant as the risk of coronavirus infection has not subsided yet.

53,699 Nepalis rescued so far

A total of 53,699 Nepalis stranded abroad have been rescued so far.

They were rescued in collaboration with the Non-Resident Nepali Association, Government of Nepal, diplomatic missions abroad and embassies, said Chiran Sharma, press coordinator of the COVID-19 High-Level Committee under NRNA.
