RPP to get IDU membership

KATHMANDU: The International Democratic Union (IDU) has consented the application of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party’s (RPP) to obtain the membership of International Democratic Union (IDU), an umbrella organization of conservative political parties of the world on Thursday.

In a virtual meeting of the IDU held under the Chairpersonship of Stephen Harper, former Prime Minister of Canada, the Liberal Party of Australia, the ruling party of Australia had proposed to grant RPP the membership of IDU.

In the meeting, Mohammad Nasir, former President of the Maldives Island welcomed and consented to the proposal welcoming RPP as another political party from South Asia to join IDU.

RPP Chairperson Kamal Thapa also participated in the meeting attended by the political representatives of 76 conservative parties of the world.

Speaking in the meeting, RPP Chair Thapa reiterated the need to further nurture and strengthen the coordination, cooperation and unity among the political parties committed to the economic development, peace and freedom as democracy, freedom and human rights are facing unique challenges in the modern world.

The meeting scheduled to take place in Washington DC of the US was converted into a virtual meeting owing to the global security threats posed by COVID-19 pandemic.

According to RPP leader Raja Ram Bartaula, RPP will get the membership formally in the forthcoming International Conference of IDU.
