Monsoon mayhem: Four missing, hundreds of houses inundated in Kailali

KATHMANDU: The normal life has been affected in various places in the country due to the heavy downpour continuing since Tuesday night.

With low pressure monsoon trough lying near Nepal, heavy rain has wreaked havoc in the far western region in the country.

Normal life has been hit hard in Kailali, Bardiya, Kanchanpur, Dhading, and Tanahun districts due to inundation and landslides triggered by incessant rains.

Hundreds of houses have been inundated and four people have gone missing after floods entered the human settlements in Kailali district

Four people have gone missing in Bhajani municipality of the district after a swollen irrigation canal gushed into different places of the municipality.

According to District Police Office, Kailali, four people including 11-year-old grandson of Thaggu Chaudhary of Bhajani municipality-8, Sonaphanta have gone missing after being swept away by the floods.

Police Inspector Janak Dhami said they are searching the missing people.

As many as 700 houses were inundated by monsoon deluge as of Wednesday evening, according to District Level Disaster Management Office, Kailali.

Meanwhile, the flood-hit people have been shifted to nearby school and community buildings, said Chief District Officer Yagya Raj Bohara.

A joint team from Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police is carrying out rescue operations.

Similarly, 800 houses were inundated after swollen Kandra river gushed into Bhajani-8.  Flood-hit people have been rescued and kept on Hulaki Sadak.

Human settlements in Bhajani, Tikapur, Lamki, Joshipur rural municipalities have been inundated after swollen Kandra, Kada and Patharaiya rivers entered them.
