KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Police Integration Committee attended by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Wednesday unanimously approved the police integration proposal submitted by the Home Ministry.

The draft report proposes DIG as the chief of State Police and removes the concept of metropolitan police.

However, even if the name of the metropolitan police is removed, the changed body will remain under the federal police as per the new structure.

A task force had been formed to prepare a draft on police integration.

The report which was submitted to the ministry by the task force was submitted to the committee meeting.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law under the Bagmati Province had been demanding that the metropolitan police should be under the state police.

The report, however, was unanimously passed without incorporating the demand of the ministry, paving the way for the police integration.
