CHITWAN: The Chitwan Medical College has said it is making preparations to freely perform PCR tests of 10,000 residents of the district through its newly-established medical laboratory.

The hospital has expressed his readiness to support the campaign against coronavirus while requesting for the arrangement of necessary reagent for testing.

Hospital chairperson and managing director Prof Dr. Harishchandra Neupane said they were ready to cooperate immediately as the people have to wait for a week for PCR report results.

“Awaiting one week for a PCR report is contributing to the spread of the infection. We are ready to discharge our social responsibility and support for prompt PCR tests and results”, he said.

Dr. Neupane however urged the concerned authorities for the management of reagent which is being purchased only through government channels.

The CMC has set up a high-quality laboratory at the investment of over Rs 50 million. The machine can perform tests of 1,200 to 1,500 samples in a day.

A lab of the Bharatpur hospital has been conducting up to 500 sample tests a day. Neupane expressed willingness to support the Bharatpur hospital lab to expedite the results process when the number of corona cases is alarmingly increasing in the district.

As many as 524 people have been so far diagnosed with the infection in Chitwan. Nine infected have died while undergoing treatment at hospitals in Chitwan and one breathed his last at home.
