150 NCP central members submit signatures demanding central committee meeting

KATHMANDU: Amid heightened intra-party row, as many as 150 central committee members of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) have asked party leadership to call the central committee meeting immediately.

The central members submitted their signatures to NCP Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and KP Oli via Secretary at the party central office Shree Ram Dhakal on Wednesday.

The members have demanded the party leadership convene the meeting at the earliest.

As per the Article 59 (A) 4 of the party statute, the leadership has to call the central committee meeting within 15 days if 25 percent or 110 central members demand for the meeting. The NCP central committee has 441 members.

Most of the central members submitting their signatures today are close to Dahal, senior leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhalanath Khanal.

If the meeting is convened as demanded, Oli will certainly face more severe criticism within the party, which will put him under pressure to resign.

The intra-party wrangling within the party has touched a new height after Prime Minister KP Oli and NCP Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal have remained adamant to their respective stance.

While Dahal has been demanding PM Oli’s resignation, the latter has refused to step down at any cost.

Meanwhile, the Standing Committee meeting called by the Dahal-led camp on Tuesday had criticized PM Oli for unilaterally postponing the meeting.
