NA likely to pass two controversial bills

KATHMANDU: The National Assembly (NA) today is likely to pass two bills related to the functions of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority CIAA).

The Federal Parliament Secretariat sources said Prime Minister KP Oli is scheduled to table the two proposals seeking their endorsement during today’s NA meeting.

Prior to this, the Legislation Committee in the Parliament will finalize the amendment proposals.

It should be noted that the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) had decided not to table the controversial bills aimed at amending the CIAA Act and the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The two bills have been controversial as they give more teeth to the anti-corruption constitutional body to investigate transactions of private companies.
