Communications Ministry seeks clarification from Radio Nepal Executive Director

KATHMANDU: Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has asked Radio Nepal Executive Director to furnish a clarification regarding an interview of former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai.

A minister-level meeting sought clarification from Radio Nepal Executive Director Suresh Kumar Karki within three days saying that the interview created ethnic hatred and the interviewee used words such as an authoritative ruler and other derogatory words against the government.

During the interview that was aired on Monday morning, the former prime minister had accused PM KP Oli of only protecting interests of Khas people, an Indo-Aryan ethnolinguistic group.

Saying that the prime minister abducted a lawmaker and dragged President into controversy, Bhattarai said that a ‘Bhasmasur’ named PM Oli should be sacked.

In Hindu mythology, ‘Bhasmasur’ was a demon who was granted the power to burn up and immediately turn into ashes anyone whose head he touched with his hand.

Issuing a statement yesterday, Radio Nepal said it was saddened by the use of language and words by Bhattarai for the prime minister.

It had added that it could not edit as it was a live telecast.
