3 succumb to COVID-19 at Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute

KATHMANDU: Three more patients have died from coronavirus in the course of treatment at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan.

An 83-year-old man of Kamal rural municipality-3, Kerkha Bazaar, Jhapa succumbed to the virus while undergoing treatment at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan on Friday morning.

According to Menuka Kafle, the chief of Kamal rural municipaliy, the elderly who had been admitted to the hospital passed away at 4 am today.

He was infected with the virus after the pandemic spread to the community level.

Another family member of the elderly has also been infected with the virus. The infected has been kept in isolation of Mechi Provincial Hospital.

A total of five people have been diagnosed with coronavirus in Kerkha Bazaar. Preparations are underway to conduct PCR tests on the locals of Kerkha Bazaar, said District Adminstration Office, Jhapa.

Similarly, a 55-year-old male from Siraha succumbed to the coronavirus at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences on Thursday night, according to Institute’s Spokesperson Nidesh Sapkota.

The patient who had been diagnosed with coronavirus on August 27 was also suffering from high blood pressure and tuberculosis.

Likewise, a 56-year-old woman from Belbari-5 of Morang district died in the course of treatment at BP Koirala Instiute of Health Sciences this morning.

She had been referred to the Institute from Koshi Hospital after her condition deteriorated. She  had been suffering from extreme coughs, high fever and respiratory complications.
