KATHMANDU: The issue of Constitution amendment bill brought to change the coat of arms in accordance to the new map has been removed from the business schedule.

With this, the amendment bill will not be submitted to the House of Representatives (HoR) today.

Earlier, Law Minister Shiva Maya Tungbahamphe was scheduled to present the bill at the Parliament.

However, it has been removed from the scheduled as the government decided to not move the bill forward as the Nepali Congress had sought some time to come with a formal stance on the issue.

The NC, main opposition, had asked the government that it would convene a meeting of its central committee to decide on the issue.

In an all-party meet held on Tuesday evening, Prime Minister KP Oli had urged all parties to support the government in this regard.

It was earlier reported that the Constitution amendment bill would be presented in the Parliament.

It should be noted that the government has already registered the Constitution amendment bill in a bid to amend the schedule of the Constitution in which the map in the coat of arms does not include territories including Lipu Lekh, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani.

It also should be noted that a Constitution amendment requires two-third majority of the Parliament.

While the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) is short of two-third majority, the Nepali Congress has pledged its support for the amendment.
