Tenure of Chief, Deputy Chief of NID extended



KATHMANDU: The Nepal government has extended the tenure of the chief of the National Investigation Department (NID) and the age bar through the amendments to the Constitution.

The bill regarding this has now reached the House of Representatives after being endorsed by the National Assembly.

The office term of the chief of the NID is three years as per the existing law. Once the new Special Service Bill is passed, the tenure of chief of the NID will be four years. Similarly, the age bar has also been extended from one 58 to 60.

Similarly, the new Bill has extended the tenure of deputy chiefs of NID (AIGs and DIGs) and their age bars. With the amendments, the tenure of AIGs will be five years and six years of DIGs while that of SSPs will be eight years.

The age bar of the officials working in the Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force including the Public Service Commission is 58.

With the agreement between the ruling Nepal Communist Party and main opposition Nepali Congress, the Bill is likely to be endorsed by the current session of the parliament.
