Construction halted at Arun Third Project due to COVID-19

Construction of the Arun Third Hydroelectricity Project has been halted due to the coronavirus menace. The 900-Megawatts capacity project is being built in Sankhuwasabha.

The Project Office here has said construction works on the project have been suspended after the government announced a lockdown on Tuesday to prevent the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

It is said 35 per cent of the construction works of the project have been completed so far. Jaya Prakash Associates, an Indian construction company, is constructing the dam of the project while another Indian company, Patel Engineering Company, is constructing the powerhouse.

Production and supply of daily essentials to continue

The production and supply of daily essentials would continue during the nation-wide lockdown announced by the government as a preventive measure against COVID-19.

Issuing a notice, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has urged the concerned bodies to continue supply of daily essentials during the lockdown.

The ministry has shared ministry spokesperson Dr Hari Bahadur KC’s phone number (9841401287) and Director General of the Department Dr Basnshi Sharma’s phone number (9851067387) for contacting in case of any help or support needed by the producers and suppliers of daily essentials.

Chinese company provides Nepal 2,000 coronavirus kits

Chinese company Beijing Savanta Biotechnology has donated 2,000 sets of kits to test coronavirus. The company has already sent ‘coronavirus antigen detection reagent testing kits’ to Lhasa.

The Consulate General of Nepal in Lhasa is preparing to send them to Nepal via land route at the earliest. Director General of the company Wang Guoping handed over the kits worth Rs 3.6 million to Nepali Ambassador to China Sushil Kumar Lamsal in Beijing.

The Nepali Embassy has termed it ‘an excellent example of friendly age-old ties between Nepal and China’. Nepal has sent a checklist of assistance to the China government.

NCC donates 50,000 face masks to govt

Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has donated 50,000 face masks to the government at a time when the country is running out of surgical items.

Deepak Malhotra NCC handed over the face masks manufactured by the NCC to the government on Wednesday. Earlier, it had pledged to manufacture 50,000 face masks on a daily basis and provide them to the government. The NCC said it is distributing face masks in various districts as well.
