10 MW solar plant to be set up at Gautam Buddha International Airport

KATHMANDU: Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, and Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation are working on ensuring the uninterrupted power supply to Gautam Buddha International Airport through a 10MW solar plant.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the meeting attended by Ministers duo Barshaman Pun and Yogesh Bhattarai and the senior officials of Power and Civil Aviation Ministryy along with Acting Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority Hitendra Dev Shakya have discussed the project of establishing 10 MW solar power plant.

The meeting has directed the secretary of both ministries and authorities to prepare a detailed project report within a week.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) will provide NEA the land required for the installment of the solar plant in a lease for 25 years.

As offering the public land in a lease for the private sector is likely to cause many hurdles, the land lease agreement is made between NEA and CAAN.

Asian Development Bank (ADB) is to finance the project through a private sector in this project.

The government is optimistic that the installation of solar panels will spread the positive message to the international community as well.
