Teenager raped while out for fetching water from well

Village elders try to influence case tempting victim with 10gram gold

BAITADI: A teenager who was raped by one of her relatives in Sigas rural municipality while out for fetching water from a well has filed a case after seven months of the incident.

According to Baitadi Police, the rape victim has reached the police station complaining about the rape case that took place on June 5, nearly seven months ago.

According to the police, primary investigation has found that the girl and her family were silenced through undue pressure like the threat of physical assault and the temptation to provide 10 gram gold as compensation to the rape victim.

Interestingly, the village elders including those of ward office and the school teachers were found to have put pressure on the victim’s family to keep mum on the incident.

The 18 year old teenager was raped while returning from well with a pitcher of water when Deepak Dhami 22 came out from a lonely place and raped her.

The girl had gone to fetch water nearly one hour far from home to fetch water at around 4 am that day.

The victim broke their silence when the tormentor refused to abide by the paper of compensation drafted by the representatives of Ward Office and local elders.
