Indian Foreign Secretary Shringla visitting Gorkha today



KATHMANDU: Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, who is on a two-day official visit to Nepal, is visitting Gorkha today.

Foreign Secretary Shringla will deliver virtual talks on Nepal-Indina freindly relations before leaving for Gorkha where he will inaugurate three school buildings and moinitor over 50,000 under-construction houses.

As many as 40,000 houses have already been constructed at the assistance of the Indian govenment, according to Indian Embassy. He will also virtually inaugurate a monastery renovated by Indian Embassy in Manag district.

Shringla, who arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday morning, held delegation-level talks with his Nepali counterpart, Bharat Raj Poudyal at Hotel Yak and Yeti as soon as he landed in Kathmandu.  The meeting dwelled on wide-ranging areas of cooperation between Nepal and India.

Then he remained busy holding meetings with other dignitaries including President Bidhya Bhandari, Prime Minister  KP Sharma Oli, Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali and main opposition Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba yesterday.

This is the first visit of the Foreign Secretary Shringla to Nepal since he assumed the charge.

The visit is in keeping with the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between the two neighbors and the priority India attaches to its relations with Nepal, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had said in its statement.

Shringla’s visit comes after two back-to-back high-level visits from new Delhi by Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane (November) and Research and Analysis Wing head Samant Goel (October).

Shringla will return home after wrapping up his two-day official visit to Nepal on Friday.
