Coronavirus death toll in SAARC region climbs to 1,746

KATHMANDU: Coronavirus death toll has claimed to 1,746 in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) region as of Sunday morning. Over 44,000 have been infected.

According to the latest figures, 825 have died in India, 727 in Pakistan, 140 in Bangladesh, 47 in Afghanistan, and seven in Sri Lanka, taking the total death toll to 1,746 in the SAARC member states.

India

India is the worst-hit among SAARC member states. The death toll in India has reached 825 as of Sunday morning. India has reported a total of 26,283 cases so far. Currently, 5,939 patients have recovered.

Pakistan

Pakistan, the second worst-hit in the SAARC region, has witnessed 727 deaths so far, while 12,727 have been infected.

Bangladesh

The death toll in Bangladesh has climbed to 140 as of Sunday morning. The total number of infection cases has reached 4,998 in the country.

Afghanistan

Afghanistan has reported 47 deaths and 1,463people have been infected as of Sunday morning.

Sri Lanka

The death toll in Sri Lanka has reached seven. The number of infection cases has reached 460 in the country.

Nepal

Nepal has reported 49 infection cases. One among them 12 have returned home after recovery. No one has died from the novel virus so far in the country.

Maldives

The number of infection cases has reached 177 in the Maldives. A total of 17 of them have returned home after treatment. No one has died from Coronavirus so far in the country.

Bhutan

Bhutan is the least affected country in the SAARC region. Bhutan has seven infection cases. Three among those infected with the novel virus have returned home.
