Uttar Pradesh bans public gatherings until June 30

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, has decreed that no public gatherings will be allowed anywhere in the state till June 30.

This decree will apply to all political rallies, religious gatherings, sports events and other form of public gatherings which can increase the transmission of the coronavirus infection.

The state has so far just over 1,778 confirmed cases — 248 recoveries and 26 casualties — of the coronavirus, Indian media reports have said.

Meanwhile, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in India has increased to 24,942 until April 25.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the figure is inclusive of 18,953 active cases, 5,209 recoveries and 779 deaths, reports have said.

According to the ministry, the figures put the recovery rate of coronavirus patients at 20.88 per cent in the country.
