KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai on Wednesday said the decision made by the government during his premiership concerning the government land in the Matatirtha area of Kathmandu was appropriate legally, politically, and morally.

Speaking during today’s session of the House of Representatives (HoR), he said that his government gave the land to the landless people of the area as they were using it for years.

“I defend my move,” he told the parliament on Wednesday.

Dr Bhattarai defended his decision a day after the government on Tuesday issued a white paper on the properties owned by Nepal Trust.

The white paper mentions that the government led by Dr Bhattarai in 2012 was also involved in giving the Trust’s land to the locals.

He said that the issuance of white paper and blaming his government for registering the land in the name of individuals was a part of political revenge.
