KATHMANDU: Managing Director (MD) of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Kulman Ghising received loads of congratulatory messages on social media on Tuesday for being “re-appointed” to the post of MD at NEA for another four years.

Ghising’s tenure ends in mid-September. However, various media reports said Tuesday’s cabinet “re-appointed” him to the post. He has been widely credited with ending the 18 hours of load-shedding after four years as head of the NEA.

However, news reports spreading like wildfire citing “sources” on online news media, Facebook, Twitter, and other platforms.

Energy Minister Barsa Man Pun termed the news as untrue saying, “No decision has been made” on the issue.

Some of the posts contained inaccurate and benignly misleading information.

Online portal Akhabarpatra writes: Kulman Ghising re-appointed as NEA MD; excitement on social media.

He was earlier appointed to the post by the then Energy Minister Janardan Sharma in August 2016 when Pushpa Kamal Dahal was the Prime Minister.

This news online, Aagmankhabar, too, carried the news on Kulman’s re-appointment on Tuesday saying that the government has appointed him for another four years.
