KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) central member Shekhar Koirala has opposed expulsion of party leader Govinda Raj Joshi and two other leaders from the party in the name of ‘disciplinary action’.

Koirala’s reaction has come a day after the NC disciplinary committee took action against former general secretary Joshi of Tanahu, Ram Bahadur Bista of Dadeldhura and Pushkar Nath Ojha of Kailali.

The party has even stripped the trio of the party’s general membership for five years.

Koirala has labelled the action as inappropriate and unfortunate based on imaginary claims.

Taking to social media on Sunday, Koirala has claimed that such a decision will send a negative message to the party cadres as the trio has contributed a lot to the party and democracy.

The disciplinary committee led by Bhishma Raj Angdembe took action again Joshi for playing a role that led to the loss of NC senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel in the last general election. Joshi has been alleged of ‘supporting’ Kisan Shrestha of the Nepal Communist Party over Poudel.

Likewise, Ojha was alleged of playing a role in the loss of Aazu Deuba in Kailali during the general election.

Similarly, Bista, the secretary of the district committee in Dadeldhura, has been expelled for three years.
