It’s up to govt when to present MCC in House: NC leader Nidhi

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) Vice-President and Chief of the NC’s Central Policy, Research and Training Academy, Bimalendra Nidhi, said laws on citizenship should not be formulated by contradicting the constitution.

Addressing the virtual interaction organized by the Academy here Friday, Vice-President Nidhi asserted that the rules and laws should not counter the national charter.

He was referring to the NC’s differing views on the citizenship amendment bill according to which a foreign woman married to Nepali men will have to wait for seven years to obtain naturalized citizenship.

On a different note, Nidhi said, “Nepali Congress and parliamentary party have decided to endorse the pact on MCC. It is now up to the government when it presents it in the parliament.”

Academy’s Executive Director Prof Purusottam Dahal shared that interaction lasted for five hours during which the NC’s district presidents had discussed COVID-19’s situation in the districts, MCC grant, border issues and the citizenship bills among other contemporary issues with the NC’s top leadership.
