COVID-19 kills 19,624 globally as 2,290 die in last 24 hours

KATHMANDU: With the coronavirus going pandemic across the world, the death toll due to the novel virus has climbed to 19,624 as 2,290 people died in the last 24 hours as of Tuesday evening.

A total of 435,006 people have been infected with the COVID-19 as the deadly virus has already spread to 197 countries since it first broke out in Chinese Wuhan City on December 31 last year.

Among those infected, 108,388 people have returned home after treatment in China. A total of 3,277 people have lost their lives in China with 81,171 infected. Among those infected, 71, 159 have been recovered.

America has reported the highest number of infection with 9,875 in the last 24 hours taking the total infected to 53, 609. A total of 609 have died due to the virus so far.

Likewise, the death toll in Italy has climbed to 6,820 after 743 died in the last 24 hours. A total of 69,176 have been infected. Of them, 8,326 have recovered after treatment while the condition of 3,393 among 54,030 currently undergoing treatment is critical.

Meanwhile, Spain has declared the state of emergency to combat the COVID-19. The capital city Madrid has been the center of epidemic. The first case of coronavirus infection had been detected on January 31 in Spain.

The novel virus claimed 680 people on Tuesday. A total of 3,794 have returned home after treatment in Spain while the condition of 2,636 is critical. Over 42,000 have been infected with the virus in the European country.
