KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa has said good relations between the Home Ministry and Office of Attorney General (OAG) results in the success of the justice system.

Addressing the concluding session of the third national conference of attorneys in the federal capital on Friday, Home Minister Thapa argued the relations between the Home Ministry and OAG was special, which, he argued, helps in ensuring effectiveness in criminal justice.

The OAG has been given the ultimate authority whether to initiate prosecution on behalf of the government, he said, adding that the attorneys are the backbone of the criminal justice system. The Home Minister was of the belief that such conference would enable investigative police and attorneys to strengthen the justice mechanisms.

On the occasion, Attorney General Agni Kharel said the attorneys should be accustomed to the legal system and carry out works accordingly. There should be strong coordination and collaboration among attorneys, police officials, and jail administration.
