People facing social exclusion over coronavirus cases



KATHMANDU: At a time when there have been reports of inhuman behaviors being meted out to the coronavirus-infected by their neighbors, locals have ostracized grieving family members in Kavre district.

The incident took place in Dhulikhel as a 98-year-old Ramchandra Ghinanju who died in the course of treatment a week ago.

Locals including people’s representatives chased away deceased’s son and his family members while mourning over the death of their father.

“My father had built up his image as a social worker in this locality. I could not light even his funeral pyre.  Locals including people’s representatives came to my house and behaved with me inhumanly while mourning over the demise of my father. They told me to leave the village,” complained the mourner in a Facebook post.

Nonagenarian Ghinanju who succumbed to the coronavirus was a social worker, according to his son.

There have been reports of social exclusions and inhuman behaviors in Baneshwor and Chitwan the coronavirus-infected people have been facing of late in the society.

People escape from quarantine camps and are reluctant to undergo PCR screening due to the fear of social exclusion, said a person infected with coronavirus.
