Nepal’s coronavirus count hits 18,483 with 109 new cases

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population on Saturday said that 109 people have been diagnosed with novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

Speaking at a regular press briefing this afternoon, Ministry’s Spokesperson Dr. Jageshwor Gautam said that the national tally has reached 18,483 with the new cases.

According to Dr. Gautam, one from Jhapa and one from Khotang were found infected in tests conducted at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, 11 people from Saptari in tests at Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital, Rajbiraj and tests at Narayani Hospital in Birgunj confirmed the infection in eight people from Parsa and one from Rautahat.

Similarly, in a test conducted at the National Public Health Laboratory in Kathmandu, a person from Sarlahi was fond infected, a man from Chitwan in tests at Bharatpur Hospital, a man from Bara, one from Makwanpur, one from Nawalparasi East and three from Rautahat in tests at Insect Disease Research and Training Center, Hetauda.

Tests conducted at Patan Hospital have confirmed coronavirus infection in one person from Kathmandu, one from Lalitpur and one from Achham.

Similarly, two people from Bara tested positive at Bir Hospital and one person from Kathmandu has been confirmed to have the infection in a test conducted Star Hospital.

Likewise, three people from Gulmi, six from Kapilvastu and four from Palpa have been diagnosed with the infection at the Provincial Public Health Laboratory, Rupandehi.

At Bheri Hospital, Nepalgunj, two from Banke, two from Bardiya and five from Dang were found infected, three from Nawalparasi East and one from Tanahun in tests at Lumbini Provincial Hospital, two from Achham, three from Kalikot, three from Dailekh, one from Humla, six from Jajarkot, two from Mugu and 11 from Surkhet at Surkhet Regional Hospital.

Tests conducted at Dadeldhura Hospital have confirmed coronavirus infection in four people from Dadeldhura, 13 from Doti and three from Baitadi.

In the last 24 hours, 4,075 samples have been tested through PCR, said Spokesperson Dr. Jageshwor Gautam.

At present, 5,385 people are in isolation and 18,183 are in quarantines across the country.

Nepal reported one new death in the past 24 hours that took the death toll to 45, Spokesperson Dr. Gautam said.

Meanwhile, 106 COVID-19 patients have been discharged from different hospitals in the last 24 hours after recovering from the virus. With this, 13,053 have been discharged across the country so far.
