Locals demand strong presence of govt at Chhangru

DARCHULA: Local people and people’s representatives of the Sudurpaschim State have demanded that a government office be set up at Chhangru and Tinkar in Byas rural municipality, the border between Nepal, India and China.

A strong presence of Nepali side is essential in the area where Kalapani area has been encroached upon by India. Rays of hope to reach the settlements through Nepal’s route have raised following Nepali side’s presence in the area, said Gelbu Singh Bohara, member of State Assembly of the state, adding that additional presence of Nepal government is needed.

“Dreams of the residents of Chhangru and Tinkar to reach the settlements through Nepal’s route is being realized,” he said. Armed Police Force has recently set up its camp in the area.

“There is a need to set up a border administration office, a customs office and a veterinary office in the area. I urge the government to establish these offices in the area.” Before the decade-long Maoist insurgency, a border administration and customs office were set up in the area.

Both schools at Byas are closed now and they are operating from the district headquarters, Khalanga. There is also a need to establish a health post at Byas, said a local resident Jahendra Aetwal. Two police beats and a border outpost of the Armed Police Force have been established in the area.

Preparations were underway to station an APF battalion. Homework has been made to deploy the Nepalese Army in Api Nampa Conservation Area.

Talks are underway to deploy NA in the area, said chief conservation officer of Api Nampa Conservation Area Office, Ashok Kumar Mehata. RSS
