Madhav Kumar Nepal dismisses speculations of party split

KATHMANDU: Senior leader of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Madhav Kumar Nepal has dismissed speculations that the party would split.

Speaking at a program in the capital today, senior leader Nepal asserted, “Let me assure you that NCP will not undergo a vertical split.”

He, however, did not rule out possibility of some leaders wishing to walk out of the party. “This can happen if someone wishes to,” he added.

Nepal’s statement comes amid fears that Prime Minister KP Oli may split the party.

Senior leader Nepal is currently in party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s camp, which has been vehemently demanding the resignation of PM Oli.

He also made it a point to say that no leader in the party should assume that the party and the country would undergo a hard time in his absence. “This is a mere delusion,” Nepal added indicating at PM Oli’s previous remarks that the country would suffer if he stepped down.

Senior leader Nepal also said they would continue to work in the party with full enthusiasm, not as slaves demanding that the party leadership worked in accordance to the system
