National ID card distribution drive to complete in three years



MORANG: The distribution of national ID card has begun in Morang district.

Morang District Coordination Committee chief Naresh Pokharel and Biratnagar metropolis deputy mayor Indira Karki jointly opened the registration service for ID card amidst a program at the District Administration Office on Thursday.

State-1 chief secretary Dinesh Bhattarai said the national ID card would be instrumental in delivering the government-sponsored services easy and transparent.

The registration has started to expedite the distribution of national ID cards to all Nepali citizens reaching the age criteria of minimum 16 years, shared Chief District Officer of Morang, Madan Bhujel.

He further informed the government has set a target to distribute the ID cards to its all citizens within three years.
The program which was rolled out in 24 districts has been executed in all 77 districts since last mid-July, it was informed.

As per the national target, 10 million Nepali citizens would be provided with the ID cards within the current fiscal year.

The ID registration will be carried out at ward level in coordination with the local government in coming days.
So far 225,000 Nepali citizens have obtained the national ID cards.

Also present at the inaugural program were chiefs and deputy chiefs of Biratnagar metropolis, municipalities, rural municipalities along with the representatives of various political parties. RSS
