KATHMANDU: Top brass of Nepal Communist Party (NCP), including Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Prime Minister KP Oli and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal busied themselves in pinpointing one another during the Standing Committee meeting held at Prime Minister’s official residence on Wednesday.

While Dahal expressed his grudges alleging Prime Minister KP Oli of failing to stick to the May 30, 2019 agreement reached between the two, PM Oli complained he has not been able to perform at the fullest because of the criticism that has been facing from all sides, including his own party leaders.

“Did anyone appreciate my works,” PM Oli asked during the meeting. “No, never,” he said shrugging his shoulders.

No sooner had PM Oli completed the sentence, senior leader Nepal interrupted saying, “PM Oli, we are fed up with your statements and self-praise.”

Nepal was trying to give the “self-praise is no recommendation” impression to PM Oli.

Prime Minister, however, continued to his ‘self-praising’ statements: “I have been attacked from all sides. Yes, I do not mean to say I make no mistakes. I will also mend my ways. But I need cooperation, not criticism.”

Meanwhile, speaking at the inaugural session NCP Supremo Dahal lambasted PM Oli for failing to adhere to the agreement has led to mistrust between the two chairmen.

It should be noted that the Dahal had Oli had earlier agreed to run the government on a ‘turn-wise’ basis with Oli being at the helm for 30 months and handing over the reins to Dahal after that to lead the remaining period.

Meanwhile, even though Dahal did not directly mention it, he said lack of sincerity led to suspicion and distrust between the two top brass.

“This led to distrust,” a leader quoted Dahal as saying, adding, “Instead of narrowing down the differences, the mistrust has further widened.” He warned that the party can even undergo unfortunate circumstances if things do not move on the right path.

The party’s Standing Committee meeting has been adjourned until Friday.

Today’s meeting endorsed the agenda as prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19, Nepal’s border problem and its solution, thorough review of the government’s works, assessment of the party works and remaining works of organizational unification, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact and miscellaneous topics.

The miscellaneous topics include the incident that took place in Rukum (Paschim) on May 23, the bill related to citizenship and allowances of federal parliamentarians.
