NC lawmakers demand govt to reclaim ‘encroached’ land by China



KATHMANDU: Three lawmakers of the main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) have appealed for the Parliament’s commitment to reclaim the land China has encroached upon by shifting the border pillars towards the Nepali side.

NC lawmakers Devendra Raj Kandel, Satya Narayan Sharma Khanal and Sanjaya Kumar Gautam drawn the attention of the parliamentarians and the government towards the land encroached by the northern neighbor.

They have also mentioned that Nepal and China share 141,488 sq. km long border and 98 border pillars claiming that some of the border pillars are missing and some have been shifted towards Nepal.

“More than 64 hectares of have been encroached upon land in Dolakha, Humla, Sindhupalchowk, Sankhuwasabha, Gorkha ad Rasuwa,” a document said.

According to the document, Pillar 37 and 38 of Gorkha are missing whereas pillar 35 is shifted inside Nepal so as to let Northern Gorkha’s Rui village in the Chinese territory.

“The shifting of the pillars has kept Nepal’s Rui Gaun on the Tibetan side,” the commitment letter says. “Some 72 households of Rui Gaun of Gorkha and 18 houses of Darchula have fallen victim of the Chinese encroachment,” the lawmakers said.

Lawmakers have stated that the commitment proposal aims to inform the parliament about the encroachment and seeks it to direct the government to initiate diplomatic channels to reclaim the land back.
