NCP Secretariat meeting discusses MCC

KATHMANDU: The Secretariat meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has discussed the constitution amendment and the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) on Saturday.

Party Spokesperson Narayankaji Shrestha said that the constitution amendment, contemporary politics after the recently-released new map and the budget for the coming fiscal year 2020/21 were discussed.

Party Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was absent from the informal meeting that was held at prime minister’s residence in Baluwatar.

Spokesperson Shrestha said that Standing Committee member Bhim Rawal and Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali spoke about the MCC.

The Nepal government has included the MCC project in its policies and programs for the coming fiscal year.

Clause 211 of the government’s policies and programs has included the project without mentioning the term ‘MCC’.

Aimed at spurring economic growth and reducing poverty in Nepal, the United States of America and Nepal had signed a $500 million compact on September 14, 2017.
