Nepal’s coronavirus tally stands at 584 with 36 new cases

KATHMANDU: Total cases of coronavirus in Nepal have reached  584 with the addition of 36 new cases on Saturday afternoon, the Ministry of Health and Population stated.

Speaking at a regular press briefing this afternoon, Spokesperson Dr. Bikash Devkota said that three cases have been reported in Surkhet, four in Baitadi, 27 in Banke and one each in Jhapa and Bardiya.

According to Dr. Devkota, coronavirus infection has been confirmed in four people in a laboratory test conducted at Seti Provincial Hospital.  The four newly infected people at the hospital are 20, 20, 22 and 27 years old from Shivanath Rural Municipality of Baitadi.

A 33-year-old man in the quarantine of Dilliraj Secondary School in Jhapa has also been confirmed to have coronavirus infection in a laboratory test at Koshi Hospital.

According to spokesperson Dr. Devkota, six people from Narainapur in Banke have been tested positive in tests carried out at the Rapti Institute of Health Sciences. They are men aged between 17 and 32 years.

Similarly, coronavirus infection has been confirmed in 15 people in Gogli quarantine of National Primary School in Narainapur-3 of Banke and infection has been confirmed in six people at National Primary School at Narainapur-1 of Banke district.

Likewise, coronavirus infection has been confirmed in a 19-year-old man in Bardiya and infection has been confirmed in one woman and two men in tests carried out at a laboratory in Surkhet.

According to spokesperson Dr. Devkota, 45,757 samples have been tested by the PCR method so far. Similarly, 3,494 samples have been tested in the last 24 hours.

Earlier in the morning, 32 fresh cases were reported that took the tally to 548.

In a statement, Joint Spokesperson Dr. Samir Kumar Adhikari had said that new cases have been reported in Chitwan, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Kathmandu, Bara and Sarlahi districts.

Among those infected are 30 men and two are women.

Three persons have died so far from COVID-19 and 70 recovered in Nepal.
