Milk consumption down to 20 per cent

Nepal Dairy Association (NDA) says the milk consumption in the country has currently come down to 20 per cent due to the lockdown.

NDA general secretary Prahlad Dahal said that the dairy industry has incurred losses of Rs 2 billion due to the lockdown and products worth Rs 5 billion was in stock.

Meanwhile, the dairy industries have started distributing milk free of cost after a slump in its sale due to the lockdown.

According to him, it has started providing milk free of cost rather than dumping it.

Locals in Manohara turn to vegetable farming amid lockdown

Ratan Pariyar of Sukute in Kalikot district used to work as a labourer in a shop at Kalimati, Kathmandu prior to the lockdown while his spouse Ram Kumari used to sell vegetable.

They were running family by these means. But, with the lockdown enforced throughout the country from March 24 to contain the outbreak of COVID-19, the family of six had a hard time in earning livelihood.

All members of Pariyar now have turned to vegetable farming nearby Manohara River in Bhaktapur which has become a medium of subsistence for them.

India gifts 23 tons of essential medicines to Nepal to fight COVID-19

As part of ongoing bilateral cooperation between India and Nepal to fight COVID-19 Pandemic, Ambassador of India to Nepal Vinay Mohan Kwatra, on behalf of the Government of India, handed over 23 tons of medicines to Minister for Health and Population Bhanubhakta Dhakal.

“The consignment, as a gift from the people of India to people of Nepal, includes 8.25 lakhs dosage of essential medicines, including 3.2 lakhs dosage of Paracetamol and 2.5 lakhs dosages of Hydroxychloroquine,” a statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu said.

COVID-19 testing equipment arrive in Nepal from China

Nepal government has received COVID-19 testing equipment, including two PCR machines and 20,.000 kits, used in the machine provided by the government of Tibet.

According to the Health Ministry, Nepal received the equipment worth more than Rs 800 million. This equipment is likely to reach Kathmandu today itself, according to Health Ministry.

According to the Ministry, the medical supplies include N95 masks, 10,000 pieces of PPE, 1000 infrared thermometers, among others.
