Death toll reaches 13 in wedding bus accident in Baitadi



KATHMANDU: The death toll from a bus accident in Purchaudi Municipality of Baitadi district has climbed to 13.

According to Sudurpaschim Province Police Office spokesperson SSP Padam Bahadur Bista, eight people died on the spot, while five others succumbed to their injuries while being taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police said 36 people injured in the accident are currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals, with the condition of some reported to be critical.

The accident occurred at around 8 pm on Thursday when a bus carrying a wedding party was heading from Bhawane of Purchaudi Municipality-7 to Sunkuda in Bajhang. The bus, bearing registration number Sup Pra 02001 Kha 1119, met with the accident at a bend in Badgaun, Purchaudi Municipality-7.

The bus reportedly plunged around 150 meters off the road.

Police said an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.
