20,000 persons to be tested for COVID-19 in Kathmandu Valley



KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley Municipal Forum has decided to widen the scope of contact tracing and testing in all the municipalities of the Kathmandu Valley stating that there is a danger of Covid-19 infection spreading at the community level.

A meeting of the officials of the Forum has decided to widen the scope of testing by making the full use of the period of prohibition and conducting extensive contact tracing.

The meeting of the Forum and Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Bidya Sundar Shakya, Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City Chiribabu Maharjan and Chief of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality Madan Sundar Shrestha has decided to carry out 15,000 to 20,000 contact tracing and testing in the Valley alone.

“Recently, the number of corona infection in the Valley has been increasing day by day. If this process continues, there is a danger of reaching to the community level,” said Shakya.

“Therefore, we are going to move forward by making an integrated plan for the prevention and control of all the municipalities in the Valley,” Skahya said.

Likewise, Madan Sundar Shrestha said they will go for contact tracing and testing after making a schedule.

He also informed that testing will be carried out as a campaign on the basis of contact tracing in all the ‘hotspots’ in the Valley.

He also had discussions with experts before the meeting of the forum officials.

During the discussion, Health and Population Minister Bhanubhakta Dhakal’s Public Health Advisor Dr. Khem Karki, Chief Specialist of the Ministry of Health Mahendra Prasad Shrestha, Director of Epidemiology and Disease Control Division of the Health Services Department Dr. Basudev Pandey and others were also present in the meeting.
