KATHMANDU: Are you worried because your kitchen shelves are empty? Have you been putting your health at risk of coronavirus transmission going out to bring vegetables? If so, you have got the alternative now. Take out your cell phones and order online; your things will be delivered home.
Keeping in mind the COVID-19 transmission risk the consumers are bearing, the shops of your choice have started delivering the goods online. Large groceries and supermarkets like Big Mart, Bhat-Bhateni Superstore and Food Management and Trading Company and many other online service providers have started providing online shopping services to their customers.
The lockdown period is extended quite often. First started with a week on Mar. 24 has been expanded up to Apr 27 now. The shops supplying most essential goods like food supply are also open only for a couple of hours in the morning. To help the public in such a difficult condition, online service providers have come out with their services aggressively.
Daraz Express, Foodmandu, Mero Kirana, Metro Tarkari, etc. have been supplying various dishes, vegetables, meat, egg and oil home. Government-owned Nepal Food Management and Trade Company(NFMTC) has also started its online service and home delivery. NFMTC’s service is limited to the areas within the Ring Road. The customer should order at least worth 2000 rupees and can order up to 5000 rupees for the service. The company delivers the goods within two days after the order.
Sharmila Neupane the Information Official at the company told Khabarhub that it has got high demand for Sona Mansuli and Jeera Masino in rice, sugar and Karnali soybean.
“We started our service one week before,” Neupane said, “in the first phase, we are providing the service to the people within ring-road and soon we will expand the service outside ring-road as well.”
She told Khabarhub that the company has been getting 20 orders every day these days. The customer can order by logging in to nepalfood.gov.np
Metro Tarkari to supply vegetables
Metro Tarkari established with the promise to deliver the vegetables at the kitchen is busy delivering as per the order online. It has been providing its service in Kathmandu and Lalitpur.
The customers can order from Metro Tarkari’s website metrotarkari.com. For the service, the customer should order at least worth one thousand rupees.
Executive Officer of Metro Tarkakari Anil Basnet told Khabarhub that it has been busy addressing the order as the order has gone quite high due to lockdown.
Metro Tarkari supplies potato, onion, tomato, ginger, garlic, cauliflower, cabbage, beans, carrot, turnip, pumpkin, etc. by collecting directly from the farms.
Metro Tarkari started its service 6 years before. “We used to get around 100 orders a day before lockdown,” Basnet said, “now we get 400 orders a day.”
Bhat-Bhateni has started home service as well
Bhat-Bhateni Superstore with many branches in the country is providing its home delivery service from various branches. Bhat-Bhateni has been providing the service from 11 branches in Kathmandu valley and 7 outside it.
Panu Poudel, the Operating Officer of Bhat-Bhateni Superstore informed Khabarhub that it has been providing service to thousands of customers.
“We have got more than 10,000 orders via Instagram and WhatsApp,” Poudel told Khabarhub, “we have served around 4000 customers.”
According to him, Bhat-Bhateni has been delivering dal, rice, sugar, tea, spices, juice, and papad, etc. to the customers’ home.
Green Growth Online is another online offering home delivery service of the essential food supplies. It has been supplying food vegetables and fruits.
Green Growth delivers the orders on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday, three times a week. The customers can order via greengrowth.com.
Foodmandu which had been delivering food and snacks home from the famous restaurants has been providing vegetables, meat, fish, eggs, etc. during the lockdown.
The customers can order by phone or going to foodmandu.com.
Despite these services, the customers not used to online shopping are still seen crowding in the groceries in the limited time they go open in the morning.
