Chinese ex-Interpol chief sentenced to 13 years in jail

KATHMANDU: Chinese court has sentenced a former Interpol chief to 13 and a half years in jail on the charge of bribery.

Meng Hongwei, who was the first Chinese head of Interpol, has already admitted to taking more than US $2 million in bribes.

The Tianjin No 1 Intermediate People’s Court said Meng would not appeal against the verdict.

Meng, 56, had been vanished back to the country from France in September 2018.

China later confirmed he had been detained as part of President Xi Jinping’s drive against corruption.
