Prachanda-Nepal faction ousts KP Oli as NCP chair

KATHMANDU: The factional Central Committee meeting of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) led by Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal has decided to oust Prime Minister KP Oli from NCP chairmanship.

The Standing Committee’s decision to that end was endorsed by the faction’s Central Committee meeting that has was held in the Capital on Tuesday. The proposal to that end was tabled by leader Bhim Rawal.

The meeting held at a banquet in Kathmandu decided to take action against Oli, said a leader who participated in the meeting. The meeting was said to attended by more than 310 members of the 447-member NCP Central Committee.

Oli is accused of acting against national and party interests, repeatedly violating party decisions, dissolving Parliament, and attacking the constitution.

The meeting also picked leader Nepal as the new Chairman. Leader Nepal has been selected Chairman on the proposal of senior leader Jhalanath Khanal.

The meeting had presented six agendas including the change of Chairperson. The first agenda was to inform on the recent political development. Accordingly, Prachanda and senior leaders Nepal and Jhalanath Khanal put forward their views at the meeting.

Similarly, disciplinary action was placed as the second agenda, and accordingly, the decision of the Standing Committee to take action against party Chairman Oli and remove him from the post of chairman was proposed for approval by the Central Committee.

According to the third agenda, the meeting declared leader Nepal as Chairperson.

Similarly, programs and action plans and protests and struggles will be passed as the fourth and fifth agendas respectively.

There is also an agenda to approve the proposal to appoint Krishna Bahadur Mahara as a member of the Standing Committee.

It should be noted that the Central Committee meeting of the Oli group was held in Baluwatar on Tuesday. The Oli faction has expanded its Central Committee to 1,199 members and named it General Convention Organizing Committee.
