Health Ministry seeks explanation from four labs including Star and HAMS Hospital

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population has asked four laboratories performing COVID-19 tests in the Kathmandu Valley to submit explanation within 24 hours for failing to store COVID-19 samples.

Dr Jageshwar Gautam, a spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population, said that the ministry has sought an explanation to Star Hospital, Central Diagnostic Laboratory, Suriya Health Care and HAMS Hospital for clarification after this lab did not store COVID-19 samples.

Gautam said as per the decision of ICS of August 31, the labs are required to store the samples for one month in case of negative and three months in case of positive.

The ministry has taken such a step after a person whose test was negative report in Nepal has tested positive abroad.

The ministry has also directed all laboratories to test COVID-19 by making protocols of internal quality control and strictly enforcing them.
