KATHMANDU: Nepal is set to import up to 250 Mega Watt (MW) of electricity from India for this winter season.
The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has said that out of 250 MW, 80 to 150 MW is required for 24 hours and the rest is used only when required.
“India has given the approval to export electricity up to 2021,” said an NEA source.
Last week, the flow of electricity is being imported at 400KV after the Dhalkewar-Muzaffarpur line was charged at 400 KV.
This has paved the way for the export of 500 to 600 MW in the coming rainy season.
Similarly, NEA has connected the power transmission loop (circle) from Kathmandu to Dhalkebar, which has yet to be connected since the Dhalkebar-Khimti line was connected in 2073 BS.
Hitendra Dev Shakya, NEA Acting Managing Director stated that the problem has been resolved and the loop has been running since Sunday afternoon.
He said that it is a successful example that the problem can be solved easily by discussing with skilled engineers.
Its direct benefit will be seen in winter, he said.
