KATHMANDU: As many as 12 security personnel have tested positive for coronavirus when the tally of deadly virus infected has reached 457 in the country.

The infected security personnel including six of Nepal Police, four of Armed Police Force and two of Nepal Army are undergoing treatment at an isolation ward. All of them are said to be normal.

There is a high risk of transmission of the virus infection to the mass people with the security personnel closely working in the community testing positive for coronavirus.

However, the security personnel have not apparently maintained personal security equipment and necessary alerts to avoid potential risks of the coronavirus outbreak. Even they could not maintain social distancing due to the nature of their job to work to control crowds.

Nepal Police central spokesperson Niraj Bahadur Shahi said the police personnel are performing their job with high confidence and alertness to prevent the virus outbreak.

All security agencies – Nepal Army, Armed Police and Nepal Police have managed necessary quarantines as a measure to stem the possible spread of the virus.

According to spokesperson Shahi, the Kathmandu-based Kalimati police beat has been sealed off after its Sub Inspector and Assistant Sub Inspector were detected with the infection on Wednesday. One police personnel each in Dhankuta and Bara and two in Kapilvastu had tested positive for coronavirus.

The infection was detected among four APF personnel deputed along the border area.

The APF however have been mobilized following the security standards, said the armed police force sources.

NA Spokesperson Bigyan Dev Pandey confirmed that two NA officers had tested positive for COVID-19 in the country while one was found infected abroad.

The government has mobilized APF and Nepal Police on road in the course of the effective enforcement of the lockdown. NA is being mobilized in different works designated by the government including health treatment.RSS
