UAE might send back Nepali migrants en masse

KATHMANDU: The Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has hinted that situations might arrive in the future that would force it to send the Nepali migrant workers back to Nepal en masse.

Nepali Embassy in Abu Dhabi has already informed the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security regarding it.

Industries, factories and companies where Nepali migrant worker had been working have been shut down to preempt the spread of coronavirus. Currently, the Nepali migrants have been told to undergo self-quarantine. They are not allowed to leave the isolation camps.

Nepali Embassy has reported to the Ministry of Labor that the Qatari companies would not pay the Nepali workers during the period they undergo quarantine nor would they be insured in case they fall ill.

Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security Rameshwar Raya Yadav informed that he has received a letter from the Nepali Embassy stating that the Qatar government might send the Nepali migrant workers any time soon in the future.

The government is doing homework what can be done if the Nepali migrant workers are sent back en masse. Almost 5 million Nepali youths are working in Qatar, currently.

Meanwhile, the Minister Yadav said he had directed Nepali ambassador to take diplomatic initiation to deal with the possible future consequences.
